AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli has revealed he spoke to Rafael Leao about the team’s system of play. And the players talk about the position they like to play.
The Portugal international came off the bench in the previous two defeats to Sassuolo and Inter Milan, before returning to the starting line-up in last night’s 1-0 home win over Torino last friday.
Usually, Leao is play more at the wide end. But on being moved more inward. Pioli revealed that the player ufabet himself said he would love to play in this role.
“Rafa is a strange player. I always thought he would play wide. It’s the ideal position for him, we tried a 3-4-2-1 formation and wanted him to be more central. Closer to the front He told me that was his favorite position! He is happy to play there,” said Pioli.
“Obviously we had problems building the game in the first half or getting the ball forward. He had to cut through the middle to face the three centre-halves. But we will see each game how things are going.”
Tottenham are up next in the Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday evening, so is this a clue as to how Milan will be set out in that match?
“We’ll see, I need to have a look at Tomori and Bennacer’s conditions. We are facing some teams that are really very similar, as Torino, Tottenham, Monza and Atalanta are all more or less 3-4-2-1 formations.
“The team has evolved tactically now, so we can do different things, the important element is to do it with the right spirit.”
